Today we pitched 3 ideas for our Music Video. We picked the best one, for its possibility to be created.
After much discussion we finally agreed to do the song "Do Wah Diddy" and find a cover of the song or karaoke. We wanted something funny and entertaining, something where we could have a lot of fast cutting editing, to keep the audiences attention as well as quirky editing and a variety of camera angles.
Genre: 60's music
Track: Do Wah Diddy Cover
Dress code: 50's style
Boys: Leather jackets, shades.
Girls: Skirts, blouses, make-up, heels, jewellery
Setting: Streets, auditorium
Narrative: The girls want the boy, but the boy likes another girl
Camera Shots: tilt up - to show the dress code of the female walking down the street, to show she is an important character.
Long shot - to show the location, characters, dress code, props etc and also allows the audience to see what is going on.
Mid shot - To show the dress code as well as expression and location.
Close up - To show expression, facial features such as the shades being pulled down by the girl and winking into the camera.
On an angle - to give it a quirky and different approach/style as well as keeping the audience interested.
Follow shot - so that the shots are not static all the time, to follow the characters movements or to follow the action.
Locations: Streets (hence why the lyrics say "there she was just walking down the street")
Actors: Boy - Ben Garner
Girls- Chloe Berry (Me) Jasmine Hartley, Chloe.M
We can do this as an illustrated storyboard
Storyboard
For the Do Wah Diddy cover we looked at the lyrics and made it a narrative visual. We added a more of a realty element to it by giving it a storyline and to make it show that these types of stories happen in the world. The male character is surrounded by girls who are trying to impress him but the girl who walks down the street is all natural and seems she doesn't need to impress. She attracts the male characters attention and the other girls become jealous.
The fun element is that they will be people singing to the camera and possibly dancing in the street that would look like normal people.
Here where the other 2 pitches.
Pitch 2
Evanescence - Made of Stone
This song is coming out this year, might be some conflict between bands video (if they have one) and our own. We might not be able to get a band to cover this in time, or ask permission from someone, if no one as done one.
Evanescence is a popular band and are well known for their song "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal".
I would have the female actor, probably dressed in a black outfit, possible a long layered dress and cape, something that resembles Amy Lee's style, and they would be a male actor in black jeans and a grey hoodie with the hood up and only his bottom half of his face is visible. Both are standing on a street with a good few feet apart. The female will be singing the song as well as looking at him in a serious expression when she isn't speaking. A camera close up shows the males' mouth moving. Then it all blurs around her to show that she isn't listening. While this is happening the camera will cut back to the performance element, where the band will be playing in an empty warehouse and the same female actor singing in the band.
They will be a table with a burgundy table cloth with a chessboard on top. The male actor will be sat down waiting for her to join him as she is walking towards the table. She sits down, they start to play and you can see that there is tension for her and not for the male.
Both are walking in the Town Centre, which is full of activity. She becomes playful in her actions, and jumps from different platforms, such as walls. She is singing to him, smiling. Then is cuts back to them on the street few feet apart to resemble the "so the judgement seems fair"
It cuts to the field where they are only a few feet apart. He places his hand onto her chest and pulls out a paper heart painted red. There is a wind effect which creates her clothes to be blown in front of her, as though the power of his action as hurt her. He starts to walk away and she is crying and falls to the floor on her knees. All this will be in slow motion and then it will cut to her walking past a wall full of pictures of her and her loved one, she looks at them, smiles and her eyes are full of tears, she takes one down and one of her tears falls onto the picture, then the whole wall sets on fire and she watches them burn.
She gets angry and gives up on the chess game. She flips the table over and the chessboard and its pieces fall to the floor. She then turns and walks away and sings the song back at him, there is cutting back to the performance piece and then it fades shows her walking away and then cuts to the male and a tear rolls down his cheek.
Pitch 3
Adele - Hiding my Heart
The general narrative goes along with the lyrics. We will have the girl, who will also be singing the song (Kerry) in a field hopefully the weather will be a little windy so it will allow her hair will blow giving it a dramatic effect, she is sad and dwelling on memories from the past of her boyfriend. The memories will be in Sepia to indicate to the audience the guide of the video, colour being in the present. Kerry will be lip syncing to the song within performance and within narrative, Kerry is the artist, Kerry Louise and she is keen to perform for us. We will be going with the lyrics through out for the narrative and also sticking with the performance element by having Kerry in a dark room, with a spot light on her miming the guitar to the song and a boy to mime the piano.
