The Best and Worst Genres to work with - Classical/Instrumental

Classical/Instrumental

Worst

When you have a piece of music made by a group of composers, or a composing artist, you generally get their music in a trailer for a film. The reason I am not going to choose this genre, even though its an interesting one and one that I love very much, is because usually in the videos you must already have the film made and/or you need the orchestra with you, even if and some artist do this, have made their music through a software. I would like to use string and orchestral elements to my music, depending on the genre I or the group finally decide upon.

Are a group, were two brothers (One unfortunately passed away and so the making of music from E.S as stopped) who create orchestral/instrumental music that as become popular with TV and the Film industry. Here are a few examples

Cold Case (TV Series)

Song used – Nara (Album –Unearthed)

Unstoppable (Music Video)

Within the video you have a variation of Performance and narrative. The performance of the orchestra is always there, you have the narrative of the American football game, but it doesn't cut directly to it, the game is being projected on a TV/Wall and the camera only looks at it, it doesn't cut straight to the football scenes. This allows E.S to get promoted at the same time allow the advertisement of the football capture the audiences interest.

Here is a close up shot of one of the instruments used within the piece Unstoppable. This gives the audience indication of the instruments being used to help them identify what instruments are being used.

Here is a low angle shot, in a long/wide view, where the audience can see the orchestra and how many instruments are being used. This also shows the power and the performance element, which indicates it is on grand scale.
Here is a mid shot of the conductor, in an angle which shows the screen showing the video of the Super Bowl promotion. This indicates the artists influence and also allows extra advertisement for the Super Bowl

This wouldn’t work in our case as we don’t have, the money to use an orchestra, the time to for the orchestra to learn the song, have a time and place to record and usually big orchestra and scores are normally used for Films, Promo’s for adverts and TV shows. Our objective is to make a music video that looks professional and is possible to do.

Another problem is, is trying to make a really good piece of orchestral music, something that fits in with the appropriate themes. Such as “Unstoppable” it’s loud and quick, representing the American football game, the players having to be quick as well as the drums representing the brutal force that each player inflicts on each other. The video as to be entertaining and must show a significance to the song. Experimental camera work is essential to keep the audience watching, the right timing to cut from narrative to performance.
